English: This simplified map connects the Four Noble Truths with the practice of the Noble Eightfold Path and the traditional training in virtue, concentration, and wisdom. It is a visual study aid, not a replacement for the detailed discourses.

Four Noble Truths

SN 56.11 presents suffering, its origin, its cessation, and the path leading to cessation, together with the tasks associated with each truth.
01

The Noble Truth of Dukkha

English: Birth, aging, death and other forms of distress are dukkha; in brief, the five aggregates subject to clinging are dukkha.

02

The Noble Truth of the Origin

English: The origin is craving that leads to renewed existence: craving for sensual pleasures, craving for existence, and craving for non-existence.

03

The Noble Truth of Cessation

English: Cessation is the fading, relinquishing, release, and complete ending of that very craving.

04

Three Characteristics

The three characteristics are a way of contemplating conditioned phenomena: impermanence, unsatisfactoriness, and not-self.

Five Aggregates

SN 22.48 explicitly defines five aggregates: form, feeling, perception, volitional formations, and consciousness.

English: Experience is analysed into five aggregates. When these aggregates are objects of clinging, they are called the five aggregates subject to clinging. This distinction is explicitly made in SN 22.48.

Dependent Origination

The twelve-link formulation is shown as a traditional Theravāda study diagram. The core principle is conditionality: when conditions are present, dependent phenomena arise; when conditions cease, dependent phenomena cease.

English: Satipaṭṭhāna is not merely a generic instruction to “pay attention”; it is a structured cultivation of mindfulness and clear comprehension based on specific objects of contemplation.
